Visit to “Garuda Polyflex Foods Pvt. Ltd (GP Food Pvt. Ltd.)”, 10 th Oct ‘19
Objective: To facilitate understanding of the production process, marketing and sales of products & the welfare measures undertaken to support its workforce.
ACME organized its 1 st industrial tour for the Odd Semester: 2019-21with 3 rd semester students (2018-20 Batch) to GP Foods Pvt. Ltd. located at #11, Jigani Link road, Bommasandra, Anekal Taluk, Bangalore, Karnataka-560105 on 10th October 2019.
GP Foods Pvt. Ltd. is a Joint venture established in the year 2011-12, a strategic alliance formed between 2 international companies – Garuda Food of Indonesia and Polyflex Group of India. The JV establishment at Jigani is the only manufacturing outlet in India.
The JV is established in India with the vision to build sustainable FMCG business with reinforcing brands that create new market and give leverage for global positioning. It targeted the mercurial minded consumers and captured market share with customers loyalty. The company introduced successful products in wafer and crackers category under the unique endearing brand name “Gone Mad”, its wrappers/ packaging designs are mostly designed by the kids.
31 students from 3 rd semester MBA along with 2 faculty visited the plant to establish educative interactions with the company officials in order to have a larger perspective about the organization’s positioning in the marketplace with respect to the production and distribution of confectionaries in India.
We were oriented to the plant, different sections of the manufacturing facility, the diverse job processes, machines, equipments’ and tools used in production. We received handy reference to the company’s staffing process, the statutory and non-statutory employee welfare measures adopted, details about the gender mix ratio, working hours, etc.
The visit primarily aimed at enabling students to understand the latest technologies applied in the manufacturing process, standardization of production, packaging of products, labelling, grading and distribution of products.
Quick Facts:
- The company deploys a total of 600 human resources which includes 20 middle management staff, 300 sales representatives and 280 manufacturing staff working for different shifts daily. The workforce of women constitutes for about only a minimum of 5% of the total population across the breadth of the organization.
- GPF experienced a 75% of growth rate in 2017 and is currently working to target at a 100% growth in 2019. The bottom line is that it is ambitious to achieve a top line worth 500/- crores by the end of the fiscal year 2021.
- Only after analysing the market thoroughly through its market survey lens, ‘Gone mad’ very carefully planned for the introduction of 5 other additional flavours, namely – Strawberry, Dark chocolate, Cashew, Almond and Coffee all of which are offered at 3 price points – Rs 5/-, Rs 10/- and Rs 50/-. These variants are presently marketed only to the targeted geographical locations depending upon their demand patterns.
The visit helped us with grand take away points and since as a student it is generally not likely to expect such varied content to be a part of subject matter in regular textbooks, this tour was of great use!
